Outstanding academic performance garners award from State Department of Education

Foley Elementary School recently received a monetary award of $22,300 from the State Department of Education for outstanding academic achievement in 2007-2008. The school will also receive a certificate from the Governor's office and from the State Department of Education.

Foley Elementary School's reward is based on these two areas:
Addressing the Challenge-Poverty
Exceeding the Challenge-Poverty

Alabama's state legislation and the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 include provisions that the state's accountability plan include a system of rewards for schools that meet or exceed annual academic achievement expectations and to recognize schools that significantly close the achievement gap between subgroups of students or that meet their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals for two or more consecutive years.

The reward goes directly to our school, and the faculty will determine how to use the reward to increase student achievement.

"I really appreciate the outstanding work of these principals and their staffs," said Dr. Faron Hollinger, superintendent. "They are to be commended for their effort and commitment, which resulted in this achievement and are encouraged to keep up the good work."
