Hey everyone! We are very excited to be starting our new year here at Foley Elementary School! We hope that everyone had a wonderful summer! We wanted to start off by letting you know what is going on with the counseling program this year! As school counselors at Foley Elementary, we will be offering services designed to reach every student through developmental, preventative education, and responsive support. These services include:
Classroom Guidance: We will be teaching a serices of classroom guidance lessons to every student at Foley Elementary. The curriculum these lessons will be coming from is called "Get Real About Violence", which is generated from Discovery Health Connection. The goal o f this curriculum is to help empower students with self-knowledge, coping strategies, and life skills to assist them in becoming happier, more effective individuals.
Small Group Guidance: Small student groups will be offered as needed for each grade level on a biweekley basis. The groups are approximately 30 minutes. Small student groups are a wonderful way for your child to meet new friends, to gain more self-confidence, and to develop more positive coping skills in a safe, fun setting.
Individual Counseling: We will be working with students individually for a number of problems a student might present; such as friendship issues, difficulty in the classroom/playground/bus, conflict resolution, new student orientation, difficulty coping to school, anger management, etc. Referrals for students to meet with one of us can be made by classroom teahcers or other school staff, by parents, or through students' self referrals.
As I stated previously, we are looking forward to working with you and your children. Our overall goal is to help the students of Foley Elementary to develop more positive skills that will enable them to become self-directed learners, clear and effective communicators, collaborative workers, creating problem-solvers, and responsible citizens...now, and in the future. If you have any questions or concerns about your child that you would like to discuss with either one of us, please feel free to call or email us. Thank you for your time.
